Description
Trent Bridge is a road bridge built in 1871 and widened in 1926, designed by M. O. Tarbotton. It features cast iron work by Handyside of Derby, along with rockfaced ashlar and brick. The bridge has three spans and includes two pointed cutwaters with clustered granite shafts. Each side has ornate foliate corbels that support canted pedestrian refuges with blind arcading. The segmental spans are adorned with pierced spandrels, a dentillated sill, and a pierced iron balustrade. There is a single lamp standard in the center of each bay. The southeast side has three half-round flood arches with moulded soffits. At each end, there are pairs of square pylons featuring coats of arms and moulded square caps. The curved approach walls have a heavy moulded string course and moulded copings.
