Description
The gateways and screens at the north end of Victoria Embankment in Nottingham were built around 1901 to 1905, likely designed by T Wallis Gordon, the Corporation Surveyor. Constructed from ashlar, they feature wrought-iron gates and cast-iron railings. The design includes square piers with plinths, cornices, and shallow pyramidal caps. In the center, there is a pier flanked by pairs of gates leading to the roadways. On either side, there are screen walls with smaller end piers that have concave tops and cast-iron railings. Footpaths run alongside the screens. These structures are part of the original landscaping of Victoria Embankment, which was largely funded by Sir Jesse Boot, and they are included for their group value.
