Description
The Wheatsheaf Inn is an early 18th-century public house located on Nottingham Road in Cropwell Bishop. It is constructed of painted brick and has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with brick copings on square brick kneelers, topped by two ridge stacks. The building is rectangular in plan, with two storeys and a garret. It is arranged over four bays of unequal width. The front entrance is a six-panel door situated between bays two and three. The ground floor features a tripartite casement window in bays two and four. Similar sash windows are at the first floor level in bays one, two, and four. Small stair windows are visible in bay three. A small two-light window is set into the left gable at garret level. A later wing extends from the rear of the building. Inside, a staircase is located to the right of the entrance, distinguished by slender turned balusters and square newels. There is reportedly also some stop-chamfered beams and exposed timber framing at the left end of the interior.
