Description
The gateway at Kingswood, located 40 metres south of the house, was built in 1893 and designed by Watson Fothergill for Mr. Marshall. It is made of iron and ashlar. The gateway features a decorative iron double gate, which is flanked by single ashlar gate piers. Each pier has chamfered corners and is set on plinths with pyramidal-shaped coping, decorated with chevron patterns and a single trefoil on each side. Each pier is topped with small holders for copper lamps. On either side of the gateway, there are single decorative iron panels that extend for 3 metres and terminate in fluted iron piers with octagonal coping, each topped with a small orb. The gates and panels slope upwards towards the piers. This structure is included for its group value only.
