Description
Walnut House is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century and the mid 18th century. It is constructed of cement rendered red brick and features a slate roof. The building has a single ridge and a right gable rendered stack, and it is set on a plinth with the left two bays made of rubble. The house is two storeys high and consists of four bays, with the left two bays from the mid 17th century and the right two bays from the 18th century.
The main entrance has a doorway with a glazing bar door and an overlight. To the right, there is another doorway with a glazing bar double door, and to the left, there are two glazing bar sash windows. Above these, there are two similar sash windows, with a single smaller sash to the right and another single sash on the far right. All sash windows are set in moulded frames.
At the rear left, there is a single storey plus attic, two bay late 17th century wing made of painted red brick and covered with plain tiles. The early 17th century bays feature stop-chamfered beams with bar stops, and there is a bressumer fireplace with a small salt cupboard. The late 17th century wing also has chamfered beams and some broach stops.
