Description
No. 47 Market Place is a house that has been converted into a shop, built around 1875 with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof, which has a single ridge and stacks at the gable and side walls. It has moulded cornices at each floor and at the eaves, with a double coped gable on the right side. The structure is three storeys tall, plus attics, and has a three-window range.
On the front, there are two two-storey canted wooden oriel windows, each containing three plain sashes, with a single plain sash window positioned between them on each floor. Above these, there are three gabled dormers that have bargeboards and finials; two of the dormers contain plain sashes, while the right dormer features a two-light glazing bar casement. The shopfront, added in the late 20th century, includes a fascia and is flanked by two passage entries, with the right entry being larger. The rear of the building has irregular window arrangements, mostly from the 20th century, and includes three similar dormers. This building is included for its group value.
