Description
Carlton Windmill is an early 19th-century windmill located in Sutton on Trent. It is constructed of brick and features a flat roof with cogged and rebated eaves. The structure has a round, battered tower that consists of six stages. The openings throughout the windmill have segmental heads, and the windows are made of iron casements. The first stage includes a double door on the south side and single windows on the north, east, and west sides. Each of the upper stages has four windows, while the fifth and sixth stages have single windows on the north and south sides. The interior underwent renovations in 1985, with floors and ladders being renewed. The windmill was powered by steam starting around 1870, and its cap and sails were removed before 1900. This information was provided by the owner.
