Description

The former South Mill is a late 18th-century spinning mill, later converted into flats around 1988. Constructed of brick, it has a pantile roof and two corner stacks. The windows are 20th-century 2-light casements, some with glazing bars, all with segmental heads. The building is four storeys high plus attics, and has a seven-window range. The front elevation features a pair of doors with overlights to the left, flanked by single casements. To the right is a similar door flanked by a casement to the left and a modified carriage opening to the right. The rear elevation has a similar window arrangement, along with five late 20th-century flat-roofed dormers. Originally part of a larger mill complex built for cotton and silk spinning, the building is documented in "Industrial Archaeology east midlands" by D M Smith.
