Description
The concrete footbridge across the River Trent in Newark on Trent was built in 1915 and restored in the late 20th century. It features reinforced concrete with stone abutments and steel tube handrails. The bridge has a single segmental span, with chamfered walls on either side of the approaches, which are approximately 10 meters long. The rusticated stone-faced abutments add to its architectural appeal. On the east side, there is a rusticated stone embankment that includes a steel tube handrail, which carries the towpath under the bridge. This footbridge is a notable early example of the structural use of reinforced concrete.
