Description

The Laxton Vicarage, along with its adjoining service wing and stables, was built in 1875 by John Birch for the Manvers family. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings, featuring gabled and half-hipped plain tile roofs with diaper patterns. The building has a plinth with chamfered ashlar coping and incorporates both plain and patterned bargeboards, alongside two gable, single roof, and single side wall stacks. It is two storeys high plus attics, with an irregular plan.

The windows are primarily latticed iron casements set in mullioned, chamfered ashlar reveals. The south front includes a projecting gabled wing to the right, a 20th-century canted conservatory to the left, and a hipped canted bay window to the right. The west front has two gables, with a bay window to the right and casements above. The north front features a central projecting gabled bay with two diagonal and single central buttresses. This section includes a shouldered moulded doorway flanked by a casement and a lancet to the left, and two casements to the right. Further details include a moulded pointed doorway with responds, a gabled dormer, and a stable door integrated into the service wing.

The coach house, a two-story structure with a half-hipped roof and gablets, features a central archway to the west, a pair of carriage doors to the left, and a casement to the right, all with segmental heads. Above the archway is a half-hipped gable with a hatchway and a crane, with a gabled timber pigeoncote above. A louvred ventilator with a pyramid roof and a lean-to toilet block are also present. The building incorporates several details like breathers, stable doors, a pigeoncote, a hatchway, a crane, and run-out stops in the stop-chamfered spine beams.
