Description

A group of six semi-detached pairs of workers' houses, built in 1902. Designed by Arthur Brown, the Nottingham City Engineer, the cottages were constructed as part of the Bulcote Corporation Model Farm. They are built of red brick with decorative timber framing and plain tile roofs. Each pair features a broad central chimney stack. Numbers 1 to 10 are identical in design, with two pairs of 2-light casement windows, flanked by glazed and gabled porches. Above a moulded band are two 3-light casements, and above these a timber-framed gable. Numbers 11 and 12 are slightly larger and include a projecting gabled centre with two pairs of 2-light casements. Above a moulded band are two 3-light casements. This gable, along with the side gables, is timber-framed. Set back on either side are doorways with lean-to roofs, each above which is a single-light casement window. Single-storey, projecting former wash-house wings are located to the rear. These cottages represent a significant element of the industrial farmyard, which was built by Nottingham City Corporation to manage solid waste from their sewage works at Stoke Bardolph.
