Description

25-26 Stodman Street is a dwelling built in the 18th century, which has been converted on the ground floor into two retail units in the 20th century, with commercial space above while retaining its central door.

The building is constructed of brick in Flemish bond, featuring stone dressings, timber sash windows, and a slate roof. It stands four storeys tall, with two shop units at ground level and a central door that provides access to the easternmost shopfront and the upper floors. Aerial photography indicates a dormer attic extension to the west and a two-storey gable extension at the rear of the northernmost unit.

The exterior includes a first-floor sill band across the front elevation and a five-bay window range. The first and second floors have six-over-six sash windows, while the third floor features three-over-three sash windows. The slate roof is topped with coved eaves and has two side-wall stacks. At ground level, a central, rusticated round-headed entry doorway frames a four-panel door with a fanlight, flanked by late-20th century shopfronts. The eastern shopfront is styled in the 19th century, complete with pilasters, a cornice, and a three-light window with mullions over stallrisers beneath a timber, hooded canopy. The western shopfront has single-pane windows within timber surrounds above stallrisers, with a central, glazed recessed door beneath a plain fascia.
