Description
The Causeway Culvert, located 420 meters northwest of the level crossing on the Great North Road in Newark on Trent, was built in 1770 and designed by John Smeaton. The structure is made of brick and features stone coping. It has a single segmental arch with a semicircular retaining parapet wall. The southwest side of the culvert was rebuilt during road widening in 1922. This culvert is part of a causeway that carries the Great North Road across the floodplain of the River Trent.
