Description
The Church Hall, formerly a school, was built in 1859 for W. J. Pickin and is designed in the Gothic Revival style. It features red and yellow brick with a slate roof, a rendered plinth, moulded dentillated eaves, shaped bargeboards with finials, and a single ridge stack. The building is L-shaped, with one and two storeys and five unequal bays.
Most of the windows are pointed casements with timber Y tracery and have been restored. The west front includes a projecting gabled two-storey bay on the left with a two-storey pointed-headed recess that contains a square-headed traceried casement. To the right, there is a gabled angled porch with a 20th-century door, followed by three recesses, each with a casement. Further right is another gabled porch with a close boarded door and overlight, flanked by single diamond recesses, one of which contains a stone inscribed "Founded by W. J. and S. M. Pickin, 24th September 1859 Laus Deo." Above this, to the left, is a traceried double casement.
The south gable features a full-height recess with an altered three-light traceried casement. The gabled north end has a central plain sash flanked by single recessed panels with dentillated heads, containing a casement to the left and a blocked window to the right, both with rubbed brick heads. To the right again is a similar panel with a dentillated head, and above it is a central pointed recess containing a casement with a rubbed brick head. The east side has a 20th-century flat-roofed addition and a sloping 20th-century dormer above.
