Description
This building, known as No. 1 Pickin's Row, is a house that was formerly a school house, built in 1861 for W. J. Pickin. It is constructed of buff and red brick and features a 20th-century pantile roof. The building has rebated eaves and a single gable stack. It stands two storeys high and has a square plan with two bays.
The windows are 20th-century casements set in four-centred arched reveals, with the southern windows being chamfered and larger. On the south front, to the left, there is a gabled brick porch with a wavy bargeboard and a chamfered pointed doorway that contains a studded door with Y tracery panels. The east side features a pointed window opening, with a casement to the right and two similar casements above. The west gable has a two-storey pointed recess that contains a casement with Y tracery. The rear elevation has a central 20th-century door with a rubbed brick head, flanked by single casements, and above it are two similar casements.
