Description

Rampton Prebend is a former prebendal house, now a private house, dating to the early 17th century. The front elevation was rendered and refenestrated in the late 18th century, with later 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of brick, with stone dressings, and has plain tile and slate roofs. It features a plinth and coped gables to the front. There are single ridge and four gable stacks, two of which are external. The windows are mainly glazing bar sashes, with a symmetrical triple-gabled front. The front elevation has three sashes with segmental heads on the first floor, and above that, a semicircular window flanked by single, smaller sashes. A central moulded stone doorcase contains a half-glazed door, flanked by single sashes. The left side of the building has an off-centre door, with a single sash to its left, and above that, a 20th-century casement to the left of a sash window. The interior includes a noteworthy early 17th-century winder staircase with three flights, intersecting strings, and turned balusters. A central entrance hall has a panelled dado. One rear room on the left side contains a chamfered span beam. This is one of nine remaining prebendal houses historically associated with Southwell Minster.
