Description
The viaduct, located 450 metres south of Muskham Bridge, was built in 1770 and designed by John Smeaton. It was widened in 1922. The structure is made of red brick and features nine round arches with buttresses positioned between them. It has pluc brick parapets that are topped with ashlar coping, which includes scrolled and ramped ends along with round brick piers. This viaduct is part of Smeaton's Causeway, which was constructed as part of the improvements to the Great North Road.
