Description
This is a former Methodist chapel, dating to the late 18th century, with an extension built in 1891. The original chapel is constructed of dressed coursed rubble with a hipped plain tile roof. It has a single storey, two bays, and features two round arched lancet windows with lead glazing bars on the rear wall. The south side has two large cross casement windows, also with lead glazing bars.
Projecting from the front is a school room built in red brick with a hipped plain tile roof and sprocketed eaves. It has two red brick stacks and a deep plinth with a chamfered blue brick band. A single tripartite cross casement is set under a segmental arch, and the right or south wall has a doorway with a plank door. Above this doorway are two cross casements and a single arched board. To the far right is a doorway with a plank door and a lead glazing bar overlight. All openings are set within segmental arches.
Attached to the right of the front wall is a red brick wall, topped with blue brick. This wall ends in a brick pier with chamfered edges and shaped ashlar coping that forms a small pediment on each side. The pier is inscribed "erected." A corresponding gate pier, inscribed “1891,” creates a gateway with a small iron gate.
