Description
The monument to the Right Honourable Baron Pauncefote, erected in 1902, is located 5 metres west of the tower of the Church of St. Oswald. It features a rectangular ashlar pedestal set on a square ashlar base, with inscriptions on three sides. Each corner of the pedestal has a single engaged vase baluster, and there is a moulded cornice. At the top, a large bronze figure of an angel holds an olive branch. In front of the monument, a rectangle is formed by low decorative iron stakes connected by decorative iron chains. Baron Pauncefote was the first British Ambassador to the United States.
