Description
The Shades is a house built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick featuring pale headers and has a 20th-century pantile roof. The eaves are cogged and dentillated, with coped gables supported by kneelers. The building has two storeys plus garrets and is arranged in an L-plan with three bays. The front windows are glazing bar sashes, and all front openings have rubbed brick segmental heads. The west front includes a central panelled door set in reeded jambs, flanked by single windows, with three additional windows above. The north gable features two small 20th-century casements in the garret. The south gable has a rear wing that is two storeys high and a single bay, also made of brick with a pantile roof. On this side, there is a glazing bar sash to the left and a Yorkshire sash to the right, both with segmental heads, along with a 20th-century casement to the right and another 20th-century casement above to the left. Inside, there is an 18th-century dogleg stair with a winder, square newels, and vase and stem balusters.
