Description
The stable, outhouse, and pump at The Shades is a building from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and features a pantile roof with dentillated eaves and a single gable stack. The structure is two storeys high and has an L-shaped plan with two bays.
The south front includes, on the left, a single-storey, single-bay outbuilding that has a pair of garage doors. To the right is the stable, which has a central stable door with an overlight, flanked by two blocked openings with rubbed brick heads. Above this, there is a central round-headed opening.
On the east front, the stable door is located to the right, accompanied by a glazing bar overlight, while to the left is a round opening. The north gable has a blocked opening, with a round opening to its right, and above this is a small Yorkshire sash window. The west gable features an attached 19th-century lead pump with a curved iron handle, set in a rectangular wooden case, alongside an adjacent round stone trough. This building is included for its group value only.
