Description

North Road House is a house that was formerly a vicarage, built in the mid-18th century, with an early 19th-century Gothick addition to the south. The building is constructed of brick, which has been whitewashed, and features hipped, gabled, and lean-to roofs covered with pantiles. Architectural details include a first-floor band, stone-coped gables, keystoned reeded stucco lintels, a parapet with cross-shaped holes, and two gable stacks.

The house has two storeys plus garrets and consists of four bays. The west front features a 19th-century addition on the right with a parapet, while on the left, there is a single-storey 19th-century addition with a shaped coped wall. Further along, there is a later 19th-century lean-to addition. The entrance is marked by an off-centre panelled door with a fanlight, which is flanked on the left by a glazing bar sash and a round-headed casement, followed by a blocked round-headed opening. To the right of the door, there is a flat-roofed casement and another blocked round-headed opening. Additionally, there is a flat-roofed canted bay window with a glazing bar sash, followed by a small casement. On the upper floor, there are three smaller glazing bar sashes to the left and a round-headed casement to the right.

The south end of the house has a blocked central doorway flanked by single pointed-headed casements with leaded lights and tracery. Above this, there is a central blank panel flanked by similar casements. The rear elevation includes a French window with an overlight to the left and a plank door with a fanlight to the right, followed by two 20th-century casements. Above, there is a blocked opening to the left and a round-headed sash flanked by single glazing bar sashes to the right.
