Description

The Dairy at Dairy Farm is a dairy building dating from around 1900. It is constructed of red brick with applied timber framing, pebbledash infill, and a copper roof. The building has a hexagonal plan and is single storey, featuring brick walls with a chamfered band and simple box framing above. Each face has a single casement window, except for the side connected to the farmhouse, which has a four-light casement. The roof is hexagonal with two pitches, three roof lights, and is topped by a hexagonal wooden cupola with a small copper dome.

Inside, the dairy has a terrazzo floor, tiled walls, and wooden coving. Tiled corner piers and marble columns support marble shelves around the walls. Rectangular tiled panels with moulded frames depicting dairy maids in various national costumes are located beside most windows. In the center of the room, there is a marble fountain with two carved bowls. This building is a very rare example of a highly decorative dairy that retains almost all of its original features.
