GEDLING Arnold MANSFIELD ROAD (north east side) The Dairy at Dairy Farm

II Dairy. c1900. Red brick with applied timber framing with pebbledash infill and copper roof. Hexagonal plan with corridor linking it to farmhouse. Single storey. Brick walls with chamfered band and above simple box framing with a single casement to each face except for that with linking corridor. The corridor has a four-light casement. Hexagonal hipped roof of two pitches with three roof lights surmounted by a hexagonal wooden cupola with tiny copper dome.

Interior has terrazzo floor, tiled walls and wooden coving. Tiled corner piers and marble columns support marble shelves around the walls. Either side of most of the windows are rectangular tiled panel with moulded tiled frames each depicting a dairy maid in a different national costume. The centre of the room has a marble fountain with two carved bowls. This is a very rare example of a highly decorative dairy which retains almost all of its original features.
