Description
The boundary wall, piers, and gate at Bestwood Pumping Station were built in 1871 and are made of coursed and squared rubble with cast iron and ashlar dressings. The structure is L-shaped, featuring a curved wall with stepped gabled coping. The west gate is marked by four square piers that have chamfered plinths, foliate capitals, and pyramidal caps. It includes a pair of scrolled cast iron gates flanked by single wickets. The east gateway has two similar piers and a 20th-century iron gate. The entire boundary wall is approximately 400 meters long. This structure is part of a pumping station, one of three built in the late 19th century to serve Nottingham City.
