Description

The Old Rectory is a rectory that has been converted into a house, dating from the 17th century and mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble with a plain tile roof, featuring ashlar dressings, rubble plinths, coped gables, and rebated eaves. The building has two storeys plus a basement and is laid out in an L-shape, measuring three bays wide by five bays deep.

The windows are primarily 19th-century glazing bar sashes with projecting architraves and flush mullioned casements. The garden front, facing south, has three full-height sashes and three smaller sashes above. On the east side, there is a blocked opening to the left, followed by two sashes. To the right of these is a mid-20th century Doric portico with an open pediment, featuring a reeded doorcase with a keystoned opening and fanlight, alongside another sash. Above, there is a blocked window to the left and four sashes to the right.

To the right again, there is a set-back 17th-century rear wing with a sash and a blocked mullioned window on each floor. The return angle has regular fenestration with sashes. The north gable features 20th-century fenestration and a mid-20th century gabled bell turret. There is also an adjoining single-storey lean-to coalshed with two bays.

On the west side, there is a flush mullioned casement on each floor to the left. The ground floor features an off-centre blocked 18th-century doorway with chamfered jambs and lintel, followed by a flush mullioned casement. To the right of this is a door and a 17th-century mullioned casement. Above, there is an off-centre flush mullioned casement and another 17th-century mullioned casement, with other fenestration dating from the mid-20th century.
