Description
Church Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick with a pantile roof that features plain tile eaves. The building has ashlar dressings, first and second floor sill bands, and dentillated eaves. There is a single central ridge stack. The house is two storeys plus garrets and has two bays. The windows are 19th and 20th century casements. The front of the house has a central door with a segmental head, flanked by single casements, and above are two additional casements. The rear has a full-width 20th century single storey lean-to addition. The east gable includes a small casement and a similar casement in the garret, while the west gable has a garret casement. This building was the home of Louise Burrows, who was once engaged to D. H. Lawrence, and it is mentioned in his novel "The Rainbow."
