Description
Building D34, a fire station at the Boots Factory Site, is a Grade II listed structure. It features a reinforced concrete external frame with cantilever beams and has a rectangular plan, measuring 8 bays deep and 3 bays wide.
The exterior includes a concrete plinth and roofs. The central appliance house is taller and has clerestory windows, flanked by a single-storey addition with a parapet. The building has metal Crittall windows, and the front entrance features central, full-height doors with single casement windows in the set-back wings. Full-height glazing is present in each return angle. A square hose tower with diagonal bracing and glass brick infill is also part of the design. At the top center of the entrance, a long lamp-light is attached to the wall. The structural engineering of this building is similar to that of the D6 building and dates from the same period. Additions made around 1978 are not considered of special interest.
Inside, the fire station has a glazed tile dado.
