Description
The gateway and pavilions at the entrance to the boating lake were built around 1926. They are constructed from ashlar stone and feature flat roofs, a plinth, a cornice, and a blocking course. The structure is single storey and has 6:6 windows. In the center, there are two square gate piers with plinths and cornices, which are topped with stylized eagles. A pair of wrought-iron gates is situated between the piers. On each side, there are coped screen walls with additional wrought-iron gates. Beyond these walls are the pavilions, which have curved fronts and flush-mullioned windows with two and three lights. The pavilions have slightly projecting bays near the center, each featuring single oval windows with keystones and decorative surrounds. The sides facing the entrance include three flush-mullioned windows. At the rear, the pavilions have a central recess under a canopy, which contains four folding glazed doors, along with end bays that have single windows. The pavilions also house payboxes and facilities for bowling and putting greens, as well as toilets. This structure is part of the architectural design of a public park developed between 1921 and 1928 by Sir Jesse Boot.
