Description
The dam at Cuckney Mill is a structure that includes sluice gates, walls, a boat house, and railings. It was built in the 18th century and altered in late 1872. The dam features dressed coursed rubble, ashlar, iron, and red brick materials. An ashlar and dressed coursed rubble wall extends 170 metres around the south, east, and north sides of the mill pond, ending at the south with a red brick boat house. There are four sets of sluice gates located to the east and west. The machinery is inscribed with "Kirkland Engineer Mansfield 1872." Iron railings, which are decorated with alternating spikes and fleuron, extend intermittently around the east and south sides. This structure is included for its group value.
