Description
Cuckney House is a house from the early 18th century that has been altered and refaced in the late 18th and late 19th centuries. It is built from dressed coursed rubble and ashlar, topped with a hipped slate roof and featuring two ashlar stacks. A parapet with a cornice conceals the roof line, and the building is set on a plinth. It has two storeys plus an attic and consists of five bays.
The central doorway, dating from the 19th century, features a panelled door with a segmental overlight, flanked by half columns that support a moulded arched band, all within a recessed stone surround. On either side of the doorway are two sash windows, with five similar sashes located above. All windows have keystones. The south side of the house includes a pair of bay windows, with the left bay having a single sash and the right bay featuring two sashes. Above these is a large central arched glazing bar casement, flanked by single sashes. A dormer with two small sashes breaks into the eaves. The west and north sides have later 19th-century extensions.
Inside, there is an 18th-century quarter turn staircase with carved tread ends and turned balusters, along with two carved marble fireplaces. The hall features some panelling, and there are several panelled doors throughout the house.
