Description
West Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 17th century, with early 19th and 20th-century alterations. It is likely that the original structure was timber framed and is now roughcast. The roof is made of pantiles and features stone coped gables and kneelers. The building has two storeys plus an attic and consists of two bays.
On the front, there are two glazing bar sash windows with painted splayed lintels. Above these, there are two smaller glazing bar sashes with similar lintels. In the attic, there is a single dormer that contains a tripartite casement window with glazing bars. To the right, set back, is a lower 19th-century wing that is two storeys high and has a single bay, also roughcast with a pantile roof and a single rendered stack at the rear. This wing has one glazing bar sash window and a larger glazing bar sash window above, both with painted splayed lintels.
At the rear, there is a single-storey brick extension from the 20th century. Inside, the cottage features many chamfered beams, some visible rafters, and possible evidence of timber framing. There is also a contemporary closed well staircase with plain rectangular blind balusters.
