Description

The walls and railings enclosing the churchyard of the Church of All Saints were constructed in 1832 by Sir Robert Smirke. They are made of ashlar, yellow brick, and iron. The low moulded ashlar wall is topped with spiked iron railings that stand one and three-quarters metres high. Along the churchyard side, there are moulded ashlar blocks with iron brackets placed every 4 metres. The structure extends for 65 metres from west to east, south of the church, and features single piers at both ends, set on bases with moulded coping. To the west, the ashlar wall includes a double gateway with a single gateway to the right and a screen to the left, all adorned with similar iron railings. At the eastern end, the wall turns at a right angle and continues north for an additional 52 metres before turning west and extending for 42 metres, ending in a single similar pier. The enclosure is completed by an ashlar-coped yellow brick wall.
