Description
Eel Pie Bridge is a road bridge dating from the early 17th century, with 20th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed from ashlar, concrete, some brick, and cast iron. The bridge features a pair of 17th-century triangular ashlar arches with a single central cutwater, all set within a 17th-century ashlar surround. On either side, there are single projecting 20th-century ashlar walls that support single 20th-century ashlar piers. Above the arches, a band of blue brick is present, into which are set four 20th-century concrete girders. Each girder has a single concrete pier rising from it, supporting a low concrete parapet. Between the piers, there are cast iron railings that terminate at either end in larger 20th-century ashlar piers.
