Description

This late 18th-century model farm was built for Jonathan Acklam of Wiseton. It is constructed of brick, with a colourwashed finish, and has a slate roof with two chimney stacks. The detailing includes ashlar and brick dressings, banded corner pilasters that extend to the first floor, first floor and eaves bands, a string course, and a cornice. The main building is two storeys high and originally comprised three bays, with a projecting, pedimented central bay and lean-to wings.

The east front features a projecting pedimented central bay containing a plain sash window with a rubbed brick head, arched pediment, and blocked surround. This is flanked by single plain sashes with similar heads and surrounds. Above, there are three plain sashes, all with similar surrounds. The west gable has a similar style, with three ground floor openings featuring large splays and clinker keystones. A central 20th-century casement is flanked by single banded pilasters, and beyond, single blank panels. Above, a central round-headed opening contains a 20th-century two-light glazing bar casement, flanked to the left by a blank panel and to the right by another 20th-century two-light glazing bar casement, both with rubbed brick heads. Other sides have central doorways and a mix of 18th, 19th, and 20th-century windows.

A curved brick wall connects the east end of the main building to matching outbuildings; the outbuilding to the left has been demolished. To the right of the link wall is a surviving outbuilding built from brick with a pantiled roof. This single-storey building has one bay. The east gable displays blue brick plinth, and lintel bond, with a cornice and brick-coped gable. A central, round-headed blocked recess with clinker keystones is present, above a blank circular opening. The left side features a central segmental-headed doorway flanked by single unglazed openings.
