Description
The South Engine House and boundary wall, built in 1828, is a significant pumping engine house located on Soss Road in Misterton. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof, featuring a stone foundation wall, stone sills and lintels, a moulded stone eaves band, and stone coped gables. The building is two storeys high and has three bays.
On the west gable, there are single cast-iron glazing bar casements on both floors. Between the floors, there is a datestone that reads, "These works erected 1828, Francis Raynes, George Kelk, William Gauntley (Commissioners), Alfred Smith, Engineer." To the right, there is a square brick chimney stack with a plain square base, plain stone coping, and a corbelled stone cap topped with acroteria.
To the north, there is a lean-to brick wheelhouse with a slate roof that projects over a drain, and further north, a lean-to timber structure with a single glazing bar sash above. There is also a lean-to addition to the south, made of brick with a slate roof, which has a central doorway and two square unglazed openings above. The east gable features a single glazing bar cast-iron light on each floor.
Surrounding the property is a curved brick boundary wall with stone coping, which is approximately 25 meters long and divided into two sections, with two pairs of stone gatepiers.
