Description
The North engine house, walkway, and cutwaters are a Grade II* listed pumping engine house built in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a slate roof and features ashlar cutwater, foundations, and dressings. The building has dentillated eaves and stone-coped gables, standing two storeys high with three bays.
The west front includes, on the left, a square brick chimney stack with a square base, recessed panels, and moulded stone coping, topped with a moulded stone cap and acroteria. To the right, there is a round-headed wheel opening that is now close boarded, with an unglazed opening above it. The south side has a central doorway flanked by two square-headed unglazed openings. On the north side, there is a single doorway to the left. The east gable features a tall round-headed opening with a stone sill, head, keystone, and imposts, along with a pointed arched opening leading to the boiler room. An iron walkway connects the building to two stone cutwaters, with the left opening blocked and the right opening featuring a guillotine sluice gate.
