Description
The west stable at Shireoaks Hall is a stable building with a loft and living quarters above, dating from the early 18th century, possibly designed by Sir Thomas Hewett. It features ashlar and coursed squared rubble construction, topped with a 20th-century hipped slate roof. The building has ashlar dressings and moulded eaves and is two storeys high with four bays. The main facade includes glazing bar lights with overlights and a single blocked doorway with an overlight. Above, there are four mullioned casements. On the right end, there is a chamfered ashlar doorway with a keystone, and above it, a central close boarded hatch dating from around 1914. The rear elevation has a single glazing bar sash in a blocked doorway to the right, with a single mullioned casement and a single slatted opening above. Inside, there are framed oak stairs, stud partitions, gypsum floors, and a principal rafter roof.
