Description
Springfield Barn is a former barn dating from the 17th century and early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with internal timber framing and has a pantile roof. The barn features three bays and is clad in brick. The central section has a segment-headed double cart opening, with an upper loft opening to the right that has a plank door, flanked by diamond-shaped breathers, and below are two cross-shaped breathers. There is a small later lean-to addition at the southeast end.
Inside, the barn contains various large-scale timber elements, including three posts, three collars, and two sets of arched braces. The roof has a shallow pitch typical of the early 19th century and has been remade using original 17th-century timbers, with much of the original wall plate still intact. Some additional posts may remain within the brick piers that now support the roof.
