Description
Ivy Cottages is a row of four cottages, possibly a former rectory, built around 1800 for William Mellish. The cottages are constructed of red brick with a rendered finish and feature a hipped pantile roof topped with a wood and lead cupola and a weather vane. There are two brick gable stacks, with two additional brick gable stacks on the outer wings. The building has a dentillated cornice and consists of two storeys with five bays, flanked by two lower, two-storey recessed wings, each containing two bays.
The central bay features a casement window with arched Gothick cast iron glazing bars beneath a flat head, flanked by doorways with panelled doors and overlights. The left doorway has similar glazing to the windows, along with additional single casements. Above, there are five similar casements, all set in relieving arches. The central three bays are topped with a pediment. The octagonal cupola is arcaded and has a modillion cornice and a ribbed dome. Each outer wing has a single doorway; the left wing features a panelled door, while the right wing has a rendered and pantile lean-to porch with a 20th-century door, along with outer single Gothick glazing bar casements and similar casements above.
