Description
The North and South Wheatley War Memorial is a war memorial unveiled in 1920, designed and made by Jones and Willis of Birmingham. It is constructed from white Hollington sandstone and features a cross with a relief carving of Christ crucified. The cross is positioned atop an octagonal shaft, which stands on an octagonal plinth. This is further supported by a three-stepped octagonal base, resting on a square lower base. A bronze plaque, which is a later replacement for the original eroded inscription, is mounted on the plinth. The plaque bears the inscription: "ERECTED TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF MEN OF NORTH AND SOUTH WHEATLEY WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT EUROPEAN WAR, 1914-1918."
