Description
Unwin's Mill House and the adjoining outbuildings are a mill house dating from the late 18th century, with additions from the early and late 19th century. The structure is built from coursed rubble and features a slate roof, with ashlar dressings, a first-floor band, moulded eaves, and a single stepped coped gable. The building has three gable stacks and two ridge stacks, with a total of three storeys and eight unequal bays arranged in two parallel ranges.
The windows are primarily glazing bar sashes. The late 18th-century, three-bay house has an early 19th-century two-storey addition on the right. The south front features a late 19th-century two-storey canted bay window on the left, which has three plain sashes on each floor. To the right of the bay window is a door, followed by another door flanked by large sashes. Above these doors, there are three sashes and a large double sash, with five smaller sashes above that. The west gable has a sash and a blank panel with an ogee head above it, followed by a plain sash. The east gable features a blocked casement and a 20th-century casement above, with two more casements above that, one of which is blocked.
At the rear, there is a door flanked by two sashes, which have been altered and boarded up. Above this, there are three sashes and a plain sash to the right, with four smaller sashes above that. To the west, there is a square yard wall and a two-storey larder with a window to the south and a door to the east. The adjoining outbuildings to the east have slate and asbestos sheet roofs. On the left, there is a 20th-century lean-to wooden outbuilding covering a door flanked by square casements, with two casements above, one of which is blocked. To the right, there are two carriage openings with segmental heads, along with a sliding door and a blocked door and casement. The south end of the outbuildings has blocked openings, and the rear has three blocked carriage openings on the left. These buildings have been reduced in height and re-roofed in the mid-20th century.
