Description
The Old Blue Bell is a public house located in Devonshire Square, Sutton in Ashfield. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and has elements from the mid 19th century. The building is rendered and features steep pitched and catslide pantile roofs. Notable architectural details include projecting quoins, dentillated eaves, coped gables with two shaped kneelers, and a combination of a single gable and two ridge stacks.
The structure has three storeys and three bays, consisting of two parallel ranges along with rear additions. The windows are a mix of flush mullioned casements and 19th-century sashes. The south front displays a mid-20th century central doorway, flanked by single triple sashes. The southeast corner is splayed and corbelled, with a sash window to the left and a round-headed casement to the right, which is flanked by single mullioned casements. Above this, there are two mullioned casements. The ends and rear additions feature late 19th and late 20th-century fenestration.
