Description
The Windmill is a windmill built around 1820 by James Lindley, located on Prospect Place in Sutton in Ashfield. It is constructed of dressed stone, with some parts tarred, and is currently roofless. The structure features a round battered tower divided into four stages. The windows consist of square unglazed openings. The first stage has doorways on the east and west sides, with the eastern doorway flanked by single blocked casements. Above this, there are two casements, and on each subsequent stage, there is a single casement. The interior of the windmill has no floors, and no machinery remains. This windmill was built to replace a post mill that was damaged by a gale in 1818 and had previously stood on Mill Street.
