Description

The stables and barns at Felley Priory are a group of outbuildings dating from the 16th, 18th, and 19th centuries. They feature a mix of timber framing, brick, coursed and squared rubble, and dressed stone, topped with steeply pitched concrete pantile roofs. The buildings are arranged in a U-shape around a courtyard and are two stories high, measuring three bays deep and four bays wide.

Architectural details include chamfered dressed stone plinths and a single external side wall stack. The windows are primarily 19th-century casements. On the south side of the stable, there is a small casement flanked by single doors, with one door blocked. Above this, to the left, is another casement and a hatch, with a loading door and hatch to their right. The east gable features a central blocked door with a four-centred arch, flanked by single mullioned casements, all under a continuous hood mould. Above this, there is a 20th-century casement, followed by three pigeonholes and a bell dated 1888.

On the north side, there is a casement flanked by single doors to the left, and to the right, there are two casements followed by two doors, one of which is blocked. The 18th-century range on the west side has an off-centre casement flanked by three stable doors on the left and two stable doors on the right, with four casements above. The timber-framed barn on the north side features four bay posts with an intermediate rail, a pair of round-headed carriage doors from the 19th century on the left, and two pairs of 20th-century garage doors on the right, with two casements above. The west side has a weather-boarded gable to the left and the remains of an adjoining building to the right, with a loading door in the gable above.
