Description
TF 08 SE WICKENBY STATION ROAD
4/42 1-4 (inclusive)
II
House, now divided into 4 properties. C16 with extensive C19 and C20 alterations. Timber frame extensively underbuilt and cased in brick of the C19 and C20. Corrugated asbestos roof, hipped at one end, with 2 axial brick ridge stacks on the front range. L-plan. 2 storey irregular 3 bay front. Off centre C19 panelled door flanked by single glazing bar sashes, that to left is a C20 window. To first floor are 3 glazing bar sashes, one casement and a taller C20 window. To left hand gable a rendered over corner post can be seen, and to the right side elevation the end of the wall plate projects slightly, and a straight joint indicates the former existence of a frame. On the left hand gable is a probably C19 small square illegibile inscribed panel. Internally, although much altered, some bay posts resting on stylobates can be seen at approx. 6'0" intervals, these have straight braces at first floor level. Ceiling girders can also be seen, that in the chamber to the left of the front (in house No.1) is richly moulded and stopped, suggesting this was the parlour. Similarly, the fireplace there had stone chamfered reveals. Linking the fireplace bressumer with the ceiling girder is a stopped wall post. Fireplaces and ceiling girders in the right hand wing are of a much simpler pattern consonant with this being the service wing of the house.
