Description
Torksey Lock and Footbridge is a canal lock and bridge from the 19th century. It features a rectangular lock chamber with double gates at both ends and a footbridge over the end closest to the road. The side walls are made of ashlar, and there are cast iron capstans to control the lock gates. The double gates are constructed of wood with iron mountings. The footbridge is made of steel and includes a balustrade and handrail. The Foss Dike Navigation Canal was originally dug in Roman times but was reopened during the reign of James I. This lock controls the outfall to the River Trent.
