Description

The railway station and stationmaster’s house were built in 1849, with later 19th-century additions. The building is constructed of yellow brick with a plain tiled roof, featuring scalloped decorative ridge tiles and raised stone coped gables. It has five tall, moulded chimney stacks. The station comprises a booking hall, waiting room, and stationmaster's house.

The asymmetrical facade has a central element of three bays and two storeys, with a three-bay, single-storey, double-gabled range to the left and a single-storey, projecting two-bay range with a parapet to the right. The central section has an off-centre half-glazed door with a four-centred arched head, flanked to the right by two two-light fixed windows with chamfered timber mullions, all under a pent glazed roof supported on cast iron brackets. Two two-light timber casements are located on the first floor, both under gables. The projecting three-bay range to the left features a central half-glazed door flanked by single three-light fixed windows. The single-storey range to the right has one two-light sash window and a single plain sash.
