Description
Nos 68 and 69 St Martin's are late 17th century or early 18th century houses that stand two storeys tall with attics, built from coursed rubble and topped with a stone slate roof. No 68 features two hipped dormers and two windows with 19th century restored stone surrounds and mullions. No 69 is similar but has been more extensively restored, with one hipped dormer and two gabled dormers. The properties include a 16th century doorway with a squared architrave and ornamented spandrels, which has been largely restored, as well as a 20th century two-storey stone bow window. These houses are now part of the George Hotel and may incorporate remnants of a medieval chapel. They are part of a group with Nos 39 to 43, the garden wall to No 43, No 44, the wall to No 44, Nos 45 to 70, the garden wall to Nos 68 and 69, and the Burghley Almshouses.
