Description

This is a farmhouse, dating from approximately 1631, with an addition from 1791 and extensive 19th-century restoration. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, quoins, and has a pantile roof with overhanging eaves, and rendered brick gable wall stacks. The two-story house has three bays to the front, incorporating a plinth and moulded string course. The central entrance features a 19th-century ribbed door within a reeded stone surround, with a slightly four-centred arched head. Above the door is a decorative carved panel featuring three fleur-de-lys and the date “1631 WB IB SB", which may have been re-used. To the left is a five-light cavetto moulded mullioned window and a deeper four-light mullion window with glazing bar casements. Above the door is a three-light mullion window flanked by single four-light mullion windows, all with cornices. The roof incorporates two 19th-century gabled dormers with three-light mullion windows and leaded lights, each with a cornice, and retaining bargeboards. To the right is a single-story, single-bay extension with a three-light casement window with a timber lintel. A datestone from 1791 is located at the rear. The interior retains two 17th-century moulded beams, including one in the hall with a deep moulded wall plaque.
