Description

No. 3 All Saints’ Place is a house, said to date from around 1630, with a front elevation dating to the early 18th century. The house is constructed of ashlar, featuring a moulded plinth with two inset foot scrapers, and a decorative band between the ground and first floors. It has a stone slate roof and a well-moulded eaves cornice with heavy dentils. There are three cambered dormers with casement windows featuring glazing bars. The front has five windows, each set within moulded stone surrounds with moulded cills. A small shield is positioned above the central window on the stone band. The central doorway has six fielded panels and a rectangular glazed fanlight, approached by a double flight of six moulded stone steps with a simple wrought iron railing. A handsome rusticated stone doorcase features a heavy triple keystone, a bolection frieze and a moulded pediment. The facade is considered exceptionally fine and one of the most notable in the town.

The building is part of a group including Nos. 1 to 8 (consecutive), garage premises to No. 9A, Nos. 9, 10, the Sunday School, Nos. 12 to 17 (consecutive), Barn Hill and Nos. 1 and 2 Red Lion Square.
